Happy Thanksgiving!!

We'll be heading to Thanksgiving dinner in CT in the morning, and after dinner we will be going to my parent's house for the rest of the weekend. I think that besides the food I am most looking forward to the opportunity to sleep in and be lazy. We both really need a vacation!!

I am also looking forward to getting more baby stuff! My mom has collected various items such as a pack and play, high chair, bouncy seat, etc. from my cousins who have all had their last babies recently. So, it's all free and it's all for the taking. yay!!

I hope everyone enjoys the holiday and totally pigs out on food and doesn't feel guilty about it. And I hope everyone has safe trips to wherever they're going.

Duct tape fixes everything

This morning I took a shower and then went downstairs to the kitchen for some food. I stepped right into a puddle on the floor. I looked around for the source of the puddle, and checked the color to make sure Hera didn't randomly lose control of her bladder. It wasn't until I got a drip on my head that I realized it was coming from the bathroom which is directly over the kitchen.

So, I called maintenance and they came to look at it. Turns out the tiles around our tub are loose and water gets behind the tiles and drips down. So, they're probably going to have to either redo the tiles, or they might just put one of those hard plastic "tub makeover" things that cover up all the existing stuff. Either way I am happy. Why am I happy? Because the water here is rusty, therefore everything in my shower is stained orange. I scrub and scrub but it will never go away.... so, hopefully they redo everything and I won't have orange caulking or whatever that stuff is called!

But for now, we have good ole' duct tape on our shower wall, keeping the water out. Haha. What is with maintenance men and duct tape??

Yay for healthy pancreases

The test results are in and I do not have gestational diabetes. Yay! I really didn't think I had it because I feel perfectly normal, but it was nice to get confirmation...... although I would have liked to avoid getting my blood taken 4 times!

In other news, Ryleigh started kicking me in a new spot- my left ribs. And despite the fact that it's uncomfortable there is reason to rejoice. She has been in a breach position for forever.... so if she's kicking me in a new spot hopefully that means she's moved to a new position, and hopefully she's in the correct position now!!

Classic Crazy

Because we are dorks, and because we love to read, Ryan and I have decided to read classic novels. These are books that we either were forced to read in high school and enjoyed, or books we've never read but feel that we should. They're essentially all the books in Barnes and Nobles "Classic Novels" section. So far I have gotten through 4 of them. Here's a list and a quick synopsis. (I know the titles should be underlined, but I can figure out how to do it)

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley: Man goes crazy after creating a monster that starts killing people.

The Portrait of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde: Man goes crazy after a portrait of him starts aging, but his actual body stops aging.

Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky: Man goes crazy after committing murder and trying to cover it up.

Slaughter- house Five by Kurt Vonnegut: Man goes crazy after being a POW in WWII and after allegedly getting abducted by aliens.

So not to sound like an English teacher or anything but can anyone see the underlying theme here??

I haven't decided which novel I'm going to read next but I would really like to steer clear of anything about a crazy person for a while. I'm thinking Little Women.... I'll just have to convince Ryan to read it too.

P.S. Another Christmas present idea is books :-) Just as long as you don't buy as Les Miserables because we own 2 copies and I've tried to read it for like 3 years..... it's impossible to get through.... I'd much rather just see the play, or even just listen to the soundtrack and sing along

My new toy

So for those of you that don't know, we got an iPod touch. And no, we're not one of those stupid couples that complain about not having enough money but then go out and buy something totally unnecessary. It worked out that on of Ryan's coworkers bought an Apple computer, and got a free iPod with it..... but he already had the iPod touch, so he gave his new one to Ryan. :-) It was very nice. We thought about selling it on eBay, but it's nice to have something completely free and frivilous.

Anyway, I really didn't know how much I wanted one until I got one. It has all the same capabilities as the iPhone, except for the whole phone part. So on my long lunch breaks I get to sit and listen to music, watch tv shows, play games, check my email, or update my facebook.

Normally I'm not into having the latest gadgets, but I have to say, technology is really fun sometimes! And this post is pretty much pointless, except to say that if anyone wants any ideas about what to buy us for Christmas, itunes gift cards would be cool, or a case for the iPod, or an adapter so we can listen to the music with the car stereo.... or just about any other cool accesory there is.

A life changing decision??

I think it's funny when people ask me if I'm nervous about how much life will change once we have a baby. Honestly, I don't see it changing all that much.

I've discovered recently that we don't do much. During the week we're both so tired from work that we just like to eat dinner and then stay inside and relax. We usually watch some tv or play a board game.
The weekends are full of soccer, which Ryleigh will just have to learn to love, and hanging out with friends. And now all the people we really hang out with have babies, so they know what it's like to try and have a social life with kids and we will hopefully be able to hang out around the babies' schedules. Other than that, the only thing I see Ryleigh really having an affect on is the amount of sleep we get..... I'm just hoping she takes after both me and Ryan and she's lazy and loves to sleep. haha.
I already do an average of 30 diapers a day and it really doesn't affect me anymore. I am used to having snot and spit up on my shirts and in my hair. I am also used to trying to keep multiple babies happy all day, so I'm thinking just dealing with one will be a breeze.

But, I am inexperienced and have no clue what kind of affect a baby will have on our lives.... I'm just hoping it won't be too much of an adjustment.

Change

My job has changed.... I still haven't decided if it's for better or worse.

My boss's threat to move me to the toddler room became reality today. I started the day in the toddler room, got sent to the baby room for naptime, then back to the toddler room for snack and outside time, and then back to the baby room for the last 45 minutes of the day so there would be a familiar face greeting parents as they pick up their babies. Yeah it's not so fun answering the question, "How was my baby's day?" when you've spent a total of like an hour with the kid off and on all day.
Hopefully they'll work out a schedule where I can maybe only switch rooms one time a day or something.
I also had my hours changed. I now work from 8-5, instead of 8:30-5:30. I'm dreading the 6:30 a.m. alarm going off, but I am looking forward to getting home earlier. I will have a little more time to get house work done, cook dinner, and see Ryan.

On another note, that parent that caused me to get yelled at by my boss has shown her true colors. One day she came in and complained that her daughter had a bib on, even though she wasn't being fed at the time. The next day she complained that her daughter's shirt was all wet from drool and spit up and said that she should have a bib on at all times. At that point my boss finally realized the woman is crazy, and she somewhat apologized to me. When the woman asked me to keep her bib on so her shirt doesn't get wet I said, "Ok, no problem"....... she then went to my supervisor and said that I was dismissive towards her.... and this time my boss stuck up for me. Yay!

A dream come true

Last night I had the most wonderful dream. I discovered a closet in our apartment that we forgot about. Yup, in my dream we had an extra closet that we walked by every day and seemed to not notice. And it was so wonderful! It fit so many boxes, and all the over flow of our stuff that we have no places for!
Then Ryan came in and woke me up and *poof* the imaginary closet of my dreams disappeared :-(
Some women want a huge million dollar house. Others want expensive cars. Me? I just want a closet so I don't have things like our massively huge winter comforter, that is too hot for me to use because Ryleigh is increasing my body temperature, sitting on the floor because we have no where else to put it.

I am Superwoman!

So not to toot my own horn or anything but I think that the number of things I am doing today is pretty darn amazing.

3:30- Ryan's alarm goes off and instead of going to turn it off he lays in bed. So, me being a good wife start pushing him out of the bed..... until I realized he was unconscious because his sugar was low. Oops. So I got him some glucose right away, and it didn't help so I called 911.

3:50 EMT's show up and try to check his blood sugar. Ryan, being in an unconscious state proceeds to fight them off and manages to knee one poor EMT girl right in the face. After back up was called in and they sat on him and fought with him for 40 minutes they finally manage to get enough glucose in him to get him to walk out to the stretcher and go in the ambulance.

4:30 We're checked into the ER. Ryan's fine, just mad that he landed his butt in the ER again. He switched to a new kind of insulin and we're figuring it's the cause because his body just needed to adjust to the new type. Everything's fine now so don't worry mom :-)

4:35-7:00 We sit around in the ER and wait for Ryan to get released.... of course the doctors take their sweet old time.

7:10- We get home, I throw on some make-up and my work clothes, Ryan throws on his clothes and we head out to work.

8:30-5:30 I will be at work, feeling very tired, emotionally drained, and physically exhausted. (I am now at week 28, which I believe is the first week of the 3rd trimester).

6:15 I will get home from work, try to scarf something down before I have to start teaching for Sylvan

7-9 I will be teaching during these hours, probably trying my best to stay awake and to actually care whether or not my students understand what a synonym is.

9:00- this horrible, long day will be over..... after I prepare my coffee, get my lunch ready for tomorrow, shower, and get into bed.

Ah........ How much am I supposed to handle????

Too sweet?

Well I went to the doctors on Monday for my glucose tolerance test and I found out today that I failed the test. My blood sugar was high, which means I could have gestational diabetes..... therefore I have to go back to the dr. for a 3 hour test! I'm not really looking forward to it. The first test wasn't bad. Everyone told me it would be horrible, and I'd get sick to my stomach and stuff, but I didn't have any problems at all.... I'm hoping the 3 hour test won't be that bad either.
The toughest part is taking 3 hours out of work. My boss complains about me being pregnant, but thankfully she doesn't give me a hard time about taking off to go to my appointments. But 3 hours is a long time, so hopefully she doesn't get upset.

I also have an appointment very early in the a.m. on Saturday to get an injection :-( I have negative type blood, so I have to get these stupid injections so that mine and my future babies blood don't clash. I think the doctor said it won't affect Ryleigh, but after her my blood with build up antibodies that would fight against a baby who had a positive blood type. I really hate the shot because it really is a big needle..... even Ryan says it's big, and he deals with needles every day, so I think he's a reliable source. So, pray that I can deal.

All these complications...... it's kind of annoying. But, at least none of them really affect Ryleigh. Although, if I do have gestational diabetes apparently it means she may be a big baby...... but judging from the size of my stomach I don't think I have to worry about that.

I want daylight back!!

So here's a funny story about a very, very blonde moment I had about 8 years ago.

I have a couple of friends in England. One day I was talking to one of them and he was saying how they change their time in the spring and the fall. They move it ahead or back by one hour. He wasn't really sure why, but that's what they did.

Me being blonde was like, "What? That's dumb. Why would you do something like that? It doesn't make sense". Of course you all know he was talking about daylight savings time....... it took me a little while to realize that we do the same thing, only I'm used to it just being called daylight savings time, instead of just hearing an explanation about it....... yes, I can be a little slow sometimes. haha.

But seriously, it's dumb. I hate that I feel ready to go to sleep right now and it's only 5:39. We have Bible study tonight and I'm going to find it hard to stay awake. And the thought of not getting out of work until it's this dark out tomorrow makes me sad!! Ugh, I hate daylight savings time ending!
