Everyone always says that when you have kids you kind of have to sacrifice your wants for theirs. Like if it's 3 in the morning and you're dead tired but the baby's crying to be fed, you can't be selfish and let them go hungry.
I've thought about that and I figured I could mentally prepare myself for when the baby comes. I didn't, however, really think about the sacrifices I'd have to make before the birth.
On Sunday I had to go to the ER for a miscarriage scare. We spent 7 hours there, (good thing the only thing on our agenda for the day was to go fishing). Well, when you're possibly miscarrying they do tests on everything. I can handle the urine tests, no problem. Well then they had to do an exam where they pushed on my abdomen, then they did blood tests, then they did a pelvic exam.... so not fun. After all that they said I was going for an ultrasound to see if the baby was still alive. Despite it being such a scary situation I was very excited about getting to see my baby for the first time...... until they mentioned a word I never wanted to be associated with me... it begins with cath- and ends in -eter...... yeah, so not fun. Apparently they needed to do this procedure in order to get better visibility of the baby. After that happened and I saw the baby and it was confirmed that there's still life and a good heartbeat I had to get a shot. I hate needles!!! I found out I have a negative blood type and that can cause problems. It doesn't affect the first baby, but my body will actually attack my next baby if the baby has positive blood. So, I need to build up immunities against that. So, now I had to withstand a one and a half inch needle for my second baby, if we end up even having a second baby...... If we do though I hope he/she appreciates everything mom has to go through.
The good news is while I was undergoing these uncomfortable, painful procedures the nurses were in disbelief at the level of my tolerance. They actually questioned their actions, they thought they were doing things wrong because most patients complain about the pain and stuff and I didn't say a word. So, that gives me hope towards the big D-day.... I hope I can tolerate that pain better than most women too. I am going to try for a natural birth, but I will make it clear that I want drugs available if I end up wanting them!

Vent
Ok so maybe I haven't quite dedicated myself to blogging on a continual basis yet. I'll get better, I promise.
I wanted to blog about my pregnancy experiences but so far not much has happened. We did get to hear the heartbeat for the first time on July 1st. That was pretty exciting, except I felt like I couldn't breathe. I didn't want to make any sounds within my body so that we could just focus on the sound of the baby, instead of my lungs if I had breathed. haha. It was very nice to have concrete evidence that there is something growing in there, instead of the two pink lines I saw on a stick was back in May.
I haven't really been sick at all. I have experienced nausea, and I did throw up twice, but in the grand scheme of things I know I shouldn't complain.
I do have one complaint however, and I don't know how many people will be reading this blog, but it's something I wish I could say to everyone. Stop commenting about my weight!!! I'm so tired of people inferring that I am not doing my part in eating enough for the baby. I am taking vitamins. I am eating about 7 times a day. I buy fruits and veggies, and I am trying to eat smart. And I sneak in all those cookies and ice creams and desserts that I feel every pregnant woman gets to indulge in. I am not starving my child! I want this child to be as healthy as possible.
And stop telling me how not-pregnant I look. Trust me, I know. I wish I had a cute little belly, but you know what, this is my first child and you usually don't start showing until 4 months with your first. I'm only 3 and a half months. My baby weighs like an ounce or something..... I'm sorry that my stomach isn't huge like everyone would like it to be, but geez, seriously, what do you want me to do about it? This is nature. It makes me so mad. I always hoped that when I got pregnant it would be the one time in my life that people would get off my back about my weight, but no, it's just making things worse. The next time someone says, "Oh my gosh you're so skinny, put on some weight" I will seriously consider saying "Oh my gosh, you're so fat, why don't you lose some weight"..... because when you think about it, it's equally as insulting...... only people don't think about it. I would never in a million years tell someone they are fat, so why does everyone, family, friends and strangers alike feel like they have the right to say something to me?!
Ok, I'm done venting.

Method behind the blog
So I decided to start a blog. Myspace just doesn't cut it for me. Honestly I miss xanga, I don't know if anyone even uses it anymore. But, I know several people who blog on this website so I decided to jump on the bandwagon.
This blog is primarily going to be about my feelings during the next 8 months until my baby is born. So far I've only known I'm pregnant for two weeks, and it hasn't been too much of a roller coaster. I have stressed out a lot, especially the week, but I think I might be getting a little better at controlling stress.
Unfortunately I essentially lost my job because of the fact that I am pregnant. Apparently the laws against discrimination don't apply to nannies. Actually, the fact that I was pretty much fired has gotten me extremely upset and I am considering taking legal action. I am not one to go around looking for reasons to sue, but when somebody commits an illegal act towards me I can't help but want to do everything I can to correct the situation. I'm not saying I am necessarily going to sue the family, but since they did break the law and end my contract, therefore costing me the $60,000 they would have paid over the years I would have worked for them, I feel entitled to some of the money. It's all very confusing and I don't know what to do in the situation. Any advice would be helpful.
The other thing that stresses me is lack of space for a baby in my 1 bedroom apartment. Ryan and I have been brainstorming and trying to come up with the cheapest possible solution to give us and the baby space, and try to make it comfortable for everyone. I know we'll make it work out, I just don't really see how at the moment. We're even considering giving the baby reign of our bedroom, and we'll sleep on a pull-out couch in the living room.... that is my least favorite idea, and we don't have a pull-out, so it could get pricey.
This baby is already lots of work and he/she isn't even born yet!! But I can't wait for the new addition to our family to arrive!
